Job Description

Amazon Now, Amazon UAE’s quick-commerce business, is hiring a Category Manager for Private Labels to own the end-to-end performance of its private-label assortment within one of Amazon’s fastest-growing businesses in MENA. This is a commercial ownership role: category managers here aren’t just merchandising an existing catalog, they’re shaping what private-label products exist in the assortment, how they’re priced and positioned, and how well they perform against both customer expectations and margin targets.

The role carries real P&L accountability for the private-label category — pricing decisions, supplier and vendor management, and selection development all sit with this person. In quick commerce, assortment decisions matter more than in traditional retail because the catalog customers see is deliberately curated for speed and relevance rather than sheer breadth, so getting private-label selection right has an outsized effect on both margin and customer satisfaction. Expect close, regular collaboration with sourcing, supply chain, marketing, and finance teams to keep the category performing and to identify where new private-label opportunities exist.

This suits a commercially minded category or brand manager who enjoys owning a P&L and is comfortable moving fast in a business that’s still being built out. Experience in FMCG, grocery, or private-label retail is directly relevant, and genuine curiosity about what makes a private-label product actually win against branded alternatives is more valuable here than a purely process-driven merchandising background.

Impact of the Job

Private-label products carry structurally better margins than most branded alternatives, which makes this category a disproportionately important lever for the overall health of a young, high-growth business like Amazon Now. Get the assortment and pricing right, and private label becomes a genuine differentiator — a reason customers choose this service over a competitor's app — while also protecting margin at a stage when the business is still proving its unit economics. Get it wrong, and a poorly selected or mispriced private-label range quietly erodes trust in quality, which is a harder thing to win back in grocery than in almost any other retail category. Because Amazon Now's catalog is curated rather than exhaustive, every private-label decision this role makes has an outsized effect relative to a traditional retailer where private label is a smaller slice of a much larger assortment. This is a role where good judgment compounds fast, given how quickly the business is scaling and how directly this category's performance is measured against both revenue and margin targets.

Job Seeker Benefit

Owning a private-label category with real P&L accountability, inside one of the region's fastest-scaling quick commerce businesses, is the kind of assignment that accelerates a commercial career quickly — decisions here show up in performance data within weeks, not quarters, which means the learning cycle is fast and the track record builds quickly too. It's a strong grounding in the full commercial toolkit: pricing strategy, vendor negotiation, assortment planning, and margin management, all under the operational discipline and data rigor Amazon is known for. Private-label category management specifically is a well-regarded specialization across retail and FMCG, and experience building it inside a high-growth quick-commerce business is a distinctive credential relative to peers who've only worked with established, mature private-label ranges. The role also builds genuine negotiation and supplier relationship skills through direct vendor management, along with cross-functional fluency working alongside sourcing, supply chain, marketing, and finance — the same combination that underpins most senior commercial and category leadership roles. For someone building toward a Head of Category, private-label, or broader commercial leadership track, few roles in the region offer this much ownership this early, and the P&L exposure gained here is exactly the kind of experience that senior retail and FMCG employers screen for when hiring for category leadership positions later on.
