# Majid Al Futtaim, Nestlé and Sparklo Expand Smart Recycling at Carrefour

Majid Al Futtaim has joined Nestlé UAE and clean-technology company Sparklo to expand smart recycling at selected Carrefour stores across the UAE. The programme uses reverse-vending machines that accept plastic bottles and aluminium cans.

Nestlé is sponsoring machines carrying its Recycle to Break the Cycle campaign, while new digital screens will provide recycling guidance at the point of use. The existing Carrefour network has collected more than 22 million items and engaged over 95,000 users, according to Sparklo.

The partners expect the next phase to collect more than 1.4 million additional containers and avoid about 200 tonnes of carbon emissions. The project makes recycling available during routine shopping trips and gives the programme measurable collection targets.
