GEMS Student Wins Four Medals at Special Olympics MENA Games

Maryam Al Madani, a 17-year-old Emirati student at GEMS World Academy in Dubai, won two gold and two silver medals in female powerlifting at the 10th Special Olympics Middle East and North Africa Regional Games.

The competition took place in Egypt from 17 to 23 September 2026. Al Madani, who has Down syndrome, has attended GEMS World Academy since December 2017 and participates actively in school life alongside her sporting programme.

The result highlights the value of inclusive education and sustained support for students pursuing high-level sport. It is a student achievement rather than an employment announcement. Source: Khaleej Times.
