# Amazon Commits $400 Million to Eastern Oregon Water Projects

Amazon says it is investing $400 million in public water systems and replenishment projects in Eastern Oregon, where the company has operated data centres since 2011. The company published the details on 20 September 2026.

The programme is intended to improve local water infrastructure, recharge aquifers and reduce reliance on groundwater as cloud and artificial-intelligence demand grows. Amazon says its Eastern Oregon data centres use outside air for cooling during 93% of the year. It estimates that its regional replenishment projects will return or improve 957 million gallons of water annually.
