About the Role
Wikimedia Foundation’s Enterprise division (via Jobgether) is hiring a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of Wikimedia Enterprise — a commercial API service delivering Wikipedia’s content to enterprise customers like Apple, Google, and Amazon.
Role Overview: You’ll work on a globally distributed, high-availability system serving billions of requests, contributing directly to the stability of one of the world’s most visited websites.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure high availability and performance of Wikimedia Enterprise API infrastructure
- Design and implement monitoring, alerting, and incident response systems
- Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration management (Ansible, Puppet, Terraform)
- Conduct capacity planning and performance analysis at massive scale
- Lead incident response and post-mortem processes
- Collaborate with software engineers on reliability reviews and architecture decisions
- Improve deployment pipelines and CI/CD workflows
- Champion SRE culture: error budgets, SLOs, SLIs, and blameless culture
Requirements
- 5+ years SRE or senior DevOps experience with large-scale internet systems
- Strong Linux/Unix systems administration skills
- Proficiency with Kubernetes, Docker, and container orchestration
- Experience with monitoring stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Icinga)
- Cloud infrastructure experience (OpenStack or AWS/GCP/Azure)
- Strong scripting in Python, Bash, or Go
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible)
- Open-source contribution is a plus
