Making a better resume might not be a game changer, but can be a good tool to make a great impact. As per our survey, 35% of the job applicants were filtered because their resume just wasn’t interesting or lacked finesse. Now, I’m not asking you to hire someone to make your resume interesting. All I’m asking you is to do some small little things that can really amplify your resume and make you look really good. Remember, a good resume is the reflection of the person and all the companies judge you basis the quality of work that you put in your resume. After all, if you cannot dedicate time for your resume, how will you work for the benefit of others. With that though in mind, let’s explore things and tools that can really help you to get a better resume and find more jobs.

You will need to buy a paid subscription for Canva or can do a 1 month free trial as well. From my experience, I can say that Canva is worth the money.

  1. Use pre made templates to get a wireframe of how you resume should look.
  2. Use icons, images & graphic to convey your message. After all, an images speaks more than a 1000 words.
  3. Use different fonts and styles of really make your resume look special. For creative people, this is a boon as you don’t have to carry the open file of your resume as it’s on the canva and you can edit it there.
  4. Use Gradients instead of colors. When using gradients, the resume looks more vivid and relaxing.
  5. The idea is to not make a resume look like a rainbow, instead use subtle elements to make it more visually appealing.

Website

Having a website really is a game changer. Yes! You heard that right. Even in 2024, not many people have their own websites. With a website, you welcome a recruiter into your own world and can make them experience who you really are and what a your achievements. Having a website can make things easy for you because a recruiter will likely engage more with your website rather than your resume. This also shows how serious you are about your career and shows great presentation skills.

It’s not necessary to build a website on your own. In today’s world, no code platforms like wix can help you get a website within clicks. You just need to build content for yourself, which chatgpt can do.
